The HUQ aggregated in-app location dataset which has been collected and supplied by Huq Ltd. in collaboration with the CDRC. The dataset contains aggregated activity counts derived from in-app mobile-phone locations across Great Britain. Mobile phone applications seek user’s consent for recording and storing the mobile device’s GPS location when the app is in use. Footfall Activity counts are derived from these locations as the sum of distinct devices per grid cell per day. Activity counts 10 or fewer are masked.
Footfall activity counts data can provide value to researchers, local authority planners, retail tenants and their landlords, investors and consumers. These data can be used to measure activity levels, particularly in heavily-used urban spaces. They may be linked to workplace zones or geodemographic classifications, for example, to better understand the functioning of local areas.
N.B. If you would like more detail on how the data was collected, and coverage, this is available in advance of completing a full application form, but applicants would need to sign a non-disclosure agreement first. If you would like to receive this, please include a request for this detail on your initial application purpose, or contact us by email once you have made your initial application and received the form. Please note such a request will significantly increase the time from initial application to delivery of the data. You can of course make a full application for the data without first receiving this collection/coverage metadata.
