Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD)

The Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) data packs are copies of several files from multiple sources (see below) and is provided as a convenience, for using with the IMD maps displays on the CDRC Mapmaker website.

Small area indices are available as the English Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) 2019, the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD) 2019, the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation 2020 (SIMD) v2 and the Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure (MDM) 2017. These indices provide small area measures of relative deprivation across across the country at the LSOA (England, Wales), Data Zone (Scotland) and Super Output Area (Northern Ireland) statistical unit areas, as mapped on CDRC Mapmaker (except N.I.).

We provide a special index for London - the English IMD (2019) rebased for London. This reranks the English IMD for just the LSOAs in London, and splits these into deciles. The attributes that provide the score that is ranked and deciled in this way are unchanged. The rebased index is mapped on Trust for London's London Poverty Profile. The index has been published by CDRC only and is not an official government statistic.

In all cases, the most deprived area has the lowest rank (1) and the least deprived area has the highest rank.

For sub-national level geodata packs at the individual Local Authority District (LAD), Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) or Combined Authority (CA), please visit https://data.cdrc.ac.uk/geodata-packs. These geodata packs further include all previous iterations of the respective IMD.
